Tim ('71) and Rich ('66) Holen

Tim Holen (‘71) and Rich Holen (‘66) are brothers and co-owners of St. Francis True Value who fondly recall their time at St. Croix where they learned the power of Christian education, ministry, and friendships. Their business is one of SCLA’s generous business partners.

What makes you so passionate about St. Croix?

Tim: I am passionate about always being proud of saying that I graduated from St Croix Lutheran High School. This school molded my lifestyle of hard work, integrity, and honesty. My lifestyle is a way of spreading God’s work.

Rich: Graduates of St. Croix seem to be very successful.

Did any specific St. Croix teacher or staff make a positive impact on you?

Tim:  John Oldfield - he molded my life and my way of thinking. His coaching: "Winners find a way. Losers find a reason." His teaching: "Don't complain unless you have a solution." His lifestyle: "Treat everyone with respect." "Every day you pay attention you will learn something."

Rich: Paul Koch and John Oldfield = courage

You co-own St. Francis True Value Hardware. What have you learned from owning a business?

Tim: Some people say that brothers can't work together, but for 45 years, we proved that wrong. We invested in ourselves, worked hard, took advantage of opportunities that came our way, weren’t greedy, and were generous to our community and people. Most importantly, we have strong family and faith. The formula for success is different in every profession. These are some of the basics.

Rich: Accumulate knowledge, work hard, be task oriented, and trust and thank the Holy Spirit. Profess and live by the SCLHS credo SOUL, MIND, and BODY.

You are generous business partners of St. Croix. How can you encourage other alumni and business owners to get involved with SCLA?

Tim: I am always happy to see people and businesses succeed. Let’s put our successes together and build and make a better future.

Rich: To all alumni and most importantly all non- alumni -- reflect on your life and experiences. Think how the Holy Spirit of the Lord God Almighty has protected you and stood by your side in so many situations throughout your lifetime. Perhaps you can help to further His work in this world by helping SCLA achieve their goals.

Anything else you want to share?

Tim: Have God in your hearts, hold your family and friends close, and be relevant. Tim Holen, class of 1971.  "The why is the reason." Keep in touch. Common sense.

Rich: Ditto to Tim's remarks. We acknowledge our lifelong friends and classmates from SCLHS. Tim is married to Joy and has three children -- two girls and one boy. Rich is married to Nataliya and has one daughter. We love to hear from old friends and classmates! Greetings from St. Francis True Value Hardware, Lumber, Rental, and Builders Supply. Richard Holen class of 1966. timholen@ymail.com or sftruevaluehardware@gmail.com for Rich. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. God bless each and everyone.
