Caleb Little (‘19)

Caleb Little (‘19) is a recent SCLA grad, but an even more recent faculty member in the halls and dormitory at SCLA. After taking a year off from college to come serve in the dorm for the 2022-23 school year, Caleb shares his thoughts about his role and what impact it will have on his future ministry.

What were you involved in while at SCLA?
As a student, I was involved in football, track, speech, and the global leadership team.

What was your favorite memory at SCLA?
My favorite memories were being a part of two state football teams and getting to play in the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium.

When you went to Martin Luther College, what were you involved with?
Football and track.

Tell us about coming back to SCLA this past school year.
This past year I had the opportunity to serve as a dorm supervisor, a middle school study hall supervisor, P.E. teacher, and a football coach. Through this year away from college, I feel like I learned many things you can't learn in the classroom. I'm praying the Lord will use the lessons and experiences I took from this year to further his kingdom, especially for young adults and teens who are learning what it means to have a faith of their own.

What does your path look like next?
I will be returning to MLC this fall to finish the last year of my pre-seminary degree and then continue my studies at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin.

How do you see your experience of working at SCLA impacting your future role as a pastor?
In five more years I will have the privilege of getting a call to a congregation in which I will have the opportunity to shepherd a community of believers as their pastor. Whether the church is attached to a school, a campus ministry, in the city, or in the country, I have no doubt that there will be young believers going through all the challenges that come with being in high school or middle school. Whether it was in the dormitory taking care of young believers, teaching and leading them in the classroom, or coaching them on the football field, I gained invaluable experience learning how to take care of, lead, and guide kids who are going through a challenging time in their lives. It is through the prism of these experiences that I will better be able to administer to the spiritual needs of God's youngest believers and prayerfully walk along with them in their journey towards a mature faith.

What would you tell someone who is wondering if SCLA is right for them?
I would say that SCLA is the right choice because they care. When I was at St. Croix, both as a student and a member of the staff, it was really inspiring to see how much focus there was on not only giving the students a great education but also on creating an environment in which students can thrive spiritually, emotionally, and socially.

Any hobbies or other interests you have?
During the frigid winters in New Ulm I enjoy ice fishing with my friends, and when it is habitable outside I enjoy going for hikes and spending time with friends.

God’s blessings to Caleb as he returns to MLC and grows in his faith and Godly leadership.
