SCLA Parent
Some SCLA traditions date back to the 1960's, while others have started in the last decade or two. Regardless of when they originated, SCLA is rich with traditions that keep our SCLA community excited and engaged. Here are some of the annual events that our students and staff look forward to each year:
Homecoming and Homecoming Dance
Homecoming week with dress-up days, class competitions, a parade, alumni tent, football game, and a dance for the high schoolers. Read more.
Run the Ravine 5k
This annual run up and down Simon's Ravine in Kaposia Park and kids fun run on the SCLA track started in 2022 and takes place the Friday after homecoming. Read more.
Veterans Day Tribute
This annual tribute takes place on the Friday before Veterans Day or on Veterans Day (whichever comes first) and includes light morning refreshments, a chapel service, and a tribute presented by SCLA choirs and bands, a guest speaker, and a student speaker. All students are asked to dress up in honor of the veterans. Read more.
Christmas Week and Movie Night in the Gym
The SCLA student council organizes a week of dress-up days and plans a Christmas movie night in the gym which incudes games, activities, and prizes.
Christmas Concerts
High School and Middle School Christmas concerts take place before the break to celebrate Christ's birth.
Snowfest and Sadie's Dance
Snowfest is a week of dress-up days, class competitions, and a Sadie's dance (girls do the inviting) following President's Day to celebrate our glorious Minnesota winter.
International Festival
The International Festival is a colorful biennial celebration for students and staff to share cuisine, experiences, and activities from around the world. International students decorate the commons with informational tables representing their home country, and activities take place in the gym and auditorium.
Sacred Choral Concert
The Sacred Choral Concert, held in the SCLA chapel before Easter break, commemorates Christ's love and sacrifice.
Spring Formal
Spring Formal is the perfect way for juniors, seniors, and their guests to conclude the year, offering an evening of fine dining, dancing, and elegance.
Senior Class Trip
The Senior Class Trip to a northern Minnesota resort offers a meaningful final bonding experience for the class, just before graduation.
