St. Croix Lutheran Student Jon Tollefson Signs with Harvard
West St. Paul, MN
Monday, January 12, 2015: On Thursday, January 15, St. Croix Lutheran High School student Jon Tollefson will sign his letter of intent to run mens track for Harvard University.
“We congratulate Jon for meeting his academic and athletic goals, and we look forward to cheering him on as he wears Harvard Crimson,” said St. Croix Lutheran head track coach Brent Schacht.
Jon exemplifies what a well-rounded student is at St. Croix Lutheran. Track and field has been a part of Jon’s life since he joined the team freshman year. The first time Jon ran the 110 HH it was clear that he had a gift for this event. He ended up going to state in that event and getting up on the medal stand for 6th place (he was the only freshman on the medal stand). As a sophomore Jon was a state champion in both the 110s and 300 IH and he repeated last year to become a 4 time state champion in the hurdles which to my knowledge hasn’t happened in recent history. He also has been all-conference for 3 years. He set the Hamline Elite Meet record in the 110s this past spring and also broke the Section IVA meet record in the 110 HH. Finally at the state meet last year he set the all-time Class A record in the 110s – which had stood since 1996 – the year Jon was born.
In addition to track and field Jon did 3 years of soccer, 1 year of football. But it is not just sports for Jon – he shows his well-roundedness by volunteering as a peer tutor, an international student mentor, BB and camp croix counselor. This year Jon is our student body president and since sophomore year has been on the National Honor Society, a homeroom leader and has been on the A honor roll since freshman year. He also uses his singing ability in Croixaliers as he has been on Croixaliers for the past three years. This year he is a Section leader.
