SCL Presents Crusader Athletics Student Leadership Team

Published Date: Wednesday, September 19, 2018 - 11:45am

The Crusader Athletics Student Leadership Team was formed in the spring of 2018 by SCL Activities Director Ryan Hulse who was inspired by similar programs he learned of through the MSHSL, specifically, the Prior Lake and Hibbing, Minnesota teams.

The inaugural leadership team is made up of 14 junior and senior student leaders both male and female who were nominated by teachers, completed a questionnaire, and then were selected from a pool of 25 candidates. HS Activities Director Ryan Hulse, MS Activities Director Drew Kock, and Pastor David Huebner served on the selection committee. Future team members will complete an application process.

The purpose of the Crusader Athletics Leadership Team is to build and equalize both spiritual and financial support for all SCL teams. Duties may include cheerleading at specific events and assisting with fundraising events, e.g. the 5K and the golf classic, among others.

The students will meet monthly for team building, leadership, and character training during the school day, including a leadership-focused Bible study led by Pastor Huebner. Their first meeting directed them to write a “Why I Play” statement to accompany a “SADER” wall display. The students will use the SADER acronym to define desirable performance and character traits in all SCL Crusaders.
