SCL Offers President Position to Academic Dean
April 28, 2015, West St. Paul, Minnesota - St. Croix Lutheran Grades 6-12 has extended an offer to Mr. Todd Russ age 45, current academic dean of St. Croix Lutheran, to serve as its fifth president replacing Dr. Gene Pfeifer who accepted the position of president of Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota in March.
Russ has been an educator for 24 years and has served at St. Croix Lutheran since 2007 when he was charged with the task of conducting a middle school feasibility study. Based on his research, the SCL middle school was opened in 2009, and he served as its director until 2011 when he moved into his current position as the Dean of Academics for grades 6-12. Russ also serves as an instructor and the head baseball coach at SCL. He holds a Master of Educational Leadership Degree (Concordia University, 2009) and Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum Instruction and Professional Development (Walden University, 2014).
“Given the strong position and direction of the current course St. Croix Lutheran is on, and Todd’s role in this as the Dean of Academics, the Board of Regents felt that Todd was the person best suited to continue on this path and develop new ideas to take St. Croix Lutheran into the future,” stated Board of Regents Chairman, Karl Hochmuth.
The President is responsible for the general overall management of the school. He serves as the official school representative to the SCLHS association, General Board, Board of Regents, and the community. He has final responsibility for development of the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plan; as well as management of the budget, mission advancement, overall personnel decisions, international recruitment, and operation of the school campus.

St. Croix Lutheran Grades 6-12 is a private Christian middle school and high school located in West St. Paul, MN. Established in 1958, the school offers a full rang e of academic courses in English, mathematics, the sciences, business life skills, religion, the fine arts, world languages, social studies, and physical education. Accelerated and advanced placement courses are offered to ensure that students are well prepared for post-secondary education. 95% of SCL graduates pursue additional education at the university or college level after graduation. The school offers 23 interscholastic sports as a member of the Tri Metro Conference. In addition to athletics, students have opportunities to participate in drama, music, and leadership programs. SCL’s new on-site 152-bed dormitory is scheduled to open in May 2015.
