St. Croix Lutheran offers students numerous opportunities to improve their God-given talents in singing and to develop as well-rounded musicians. Led by director Mike Marquardt, SCL choral students enjoy learning a variety of genres from classic and contemporary sacred literature to pop and popular movie soundtracks. Balancing quality and discipline with fun keeps students enthusiastic about learning. Choral groups offer five to six concerts throughout the school year as well as participate in special events like our annual Veterans Day celebration.

Middle School

As part of the core curriculum and their regular schedule, middle school students may choose vocal, instrumental, or both music classes.

Students perform in a Christmas and spring concert and are encouraged to participate in the Twin Cities Fine Arts Festival.

High School

Crusader Chorus

Crusader Chorus provides freshman students with an introduction to choral singing where they learn basic vocal technique, foundational music theory, sight-singing, and delve into music history through choral literature. This course serves as a stepping stone toward participation in higher-level choral ensembles like Chorale, Concert Choir, and Croixaliers.

Chorale is an ensemble that provides an intermediate-level choral experience that further explores vocal technique and general musicianship. This course also provides preparation for auditioning for top-level ensembles like Concert Choir and Croixaliers.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble providing a choral experience that teaches more advanced vocal technique and musicianship through the preparation of more challenging choral literature from a variety of styles and backgrounds. This course empowers participants for a lifetime of music making and also aims to prepare students who are seeking to participate in choir at the collegiate level.

The Croixaliers is an advanced 24-voice co-curricular choral ensemble and show choir whose members are ambassadors of St. Croix Lutheran Academy, serving congregations associated with St. Croix Lutheran Academy and beyond, as well as reaching out to the surrounding community.  They take part in the annual WELS Choral Festival, MSHSL State Solo/Ensemble competition, and participate in all of SCL’s choral concerts.

" Sound Christian education, great sports and music programs. Small enough school that teachers get to know the students. Staff is fantastic! "
