Section 4AAA 

The Crusader football team has earned the section 4AAA championship trophy for seven consecutive years and the section AAA State Championship in 2011 and 2013. The team claimed a 2nd place section AAA finish at the 2016 and 2017 State Prep Bowls at U.S. Bank Stadium. Carl Lemke, a Minnesota state high school Coach of the Year, leads four teams competing at the middle school, C, JV, and varsity levels with other conference and non-conference teams around the Twin Cities.

Football practice begins mid-August. There is an optional high school camp in late July and a middle school camp in early August. Captains serve the team by organizing summer workouts, sharing devotional messages, and helping with game-time decisions and leadership in practice and school.

Section 4AA

The Crusader girls’ volleyball program is led by a Minnesota State Section 4AA Coach of the Year, Rachel Grev. The program consists of four teams; middle school, C team, JV, and Varsity. A full schedule of matches on most Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with several weekend tournaments, round out the playing schedule.

Tryouts and practices start in the morning in mid-August. During the school year, the teams practice every weekday afternoon. A summer camp for grades 6-9 in late July helps athletes get ready for their upcoming season.

Boys Soccer

Section 3A

Crusader boys soccer competes with a full schedule at the middle school, C, JV, and Varsity levels. Depending on participation, a C team may be added. The team travels during the fall around the Twin Cities area with most home contests under the lights of Crusader Stadium.

Morning practices begin mid-August. Captains serve as leaders during the season and help to organize captains’ practices. A summer varsity camp and a summer youth camp is held in mid-July.

Girls Soccer

Section 3A

Under the direction of a Minnesota Section 4A coach of the year Dave Huebner, Crusader girls soccer competes with a full schedule at the JV and varsity levels. The team travels during the fall on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some additional days around the Twin Cities area with home contests in Crusader Stadium. Captains serve as leaders who work with the coaches during the season and help to organize summer conditioning and get-togethers. 

The season begins with practices in the morning mid-August.  A summer varsity camp and a summer youth camp is held in mid-July.

Swim Team

Section 4AA

SCL offers competitive girls swimming and diving during the fall season through a co-operative team, Metro United. The co-op team includes students from St. Anthony Village, DeLaSalle, St. Agnes, and St. Croix Lutheran. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to join the team. Practice begins mid-August. During the school year, practices run from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Athletes are expected to be at all practices and assigned meets except for an illness or school-sponsored event.  Swimming practice is held at St. Anthony Village High School (3303 33rd Ave NE, St. Anthony, MN 55418). Families are responsible for transportation to practices and swim meets.

Varsity and junior varsity athletes practice and compete together at meets. There are no tryouts, but athletes must have a basic skill level of the four competitive strokes and be able to swim four continuous laps of the pool.

Metro Southeast Conference

The Crusader bowling teams are led by varsity coach Daniel Swiderski. Sponsored by Concord Lanes in South St. Paul, the SCL teams compete with other area high school teams in matches sanctioned by the Minnesota State High School Bowling League. Varsity is made up of the top six bowlers based on tryouts. The team won the conference championship and earned third place at the state competition in 2017.

Cross Country

Section 4A

Crusader runners compete in a schedule of eleven meets including a TriMetro Conference championship and a section championship. Most races are within a 30-minute radius of SCL and take place during the week, with a few of the races hosted on a Saturday morning.

Athletes in grades 7-12 are eligible to compete, and practices begin two weeks before the start of the school year.

Girls Tennis

Section 1A

Crusader girls tennis welcomes grade 7-12 players of all experience levels to join. Players compete at the JV and varsity levels. 

Practices begin mid-August and are held on courts with a scenic view of Thompson Lake.

The regular season extends through the month of September with matches held during the week. Both team and individual postseason matches are held in the first half of October.
